KORAT, THAILAND: Myanmar qualified for the SEA Games football final after beating Vietnam 3-1 in a penalty shootout in their semi-final match on Tuesday.

It was a lacklustre game without any goal in the first half. In the second half, the highlight came in the 68th minute when Vietnam skipper Vinh Le Cong weaved his way through the Myanmar defence only to see his shot hit the crossbar.

Just a minute from stoppage time and it looked as though Vietnam keeper Loi To Vinh had handed the match to Myanmar when he fouled Yazzar Win Thein in the penalty area.

But Loi redeemed himself by saving the weak penalty attempt by Aung Myo Thant and the match was heading for extra time.

After another scoreless 30 minutes, the match eventually went down to a penalty shootout.

Myanmar keeper Kyaw Zin Htet had already saved one penalty in the shootout when he came up with his second to deny Vietnam's Hop Mai Xuan and put his side in a strong position.

Moe Win stepped up to press home the advantage and give Myanmar a 3-1 lead.

That left Vietnam's Mo Thanh Long Game having to score to keep his side in the match, but once again Kyan was equal to the task to clinch a spot in the SEA Games men's football final for Myanmar. - CNA/ir
