SINGAPORE : A dream come true - that was how bowler Remy Ong described his SEA Games gold medal performances.

The 27-year-old, a World and Asian Games champion, finally broke his SEA Games duck, winning 2 gold medals in Thailand.

Ong received a deserving hug from Singapore Bowling President Jessie Phua at Changi Airport when he returned home on Saturday.

Ong and the other bowlers were all smiles, as the team won a total of 3 gold medals.

This was a complete turnaround from their 2005 outing when they did not win any gold medal.

"It's always been my dream to win the SEA Games medal. The last two times I have been there trying so hard to win, yet not winning the gold. So I think it's a dream come true for me," said a jubilated Ong.

But that dream did not materialise for the shuttlers, especially Kendrick Lee.

While Lee made history of sorts, being the first Singaporean to reach the final of the men's singles event since 1983, he came up short on giving Singapore a gold medal in the sport in Thailand.

He bowed out in straight sets to Indonesia's Olympic Games champion Taufik Hidayat in the finals.

"I did my very best in the finals but as I said, in the finals, Taufik was too brilliant for me. He was too fast; he knew my shots very well and was just a step ahead of me," said Lee, who won second place in the men's badminton singles. - CNA /ls
