SINGAPORE: Temasek Foundation and the National Institute of Education (NIE), together with NIE's Vietnamese counterpart - the National Institute of Education Management - have started a training programme for school leaders in Vietnam.
The initiative was launched by the Minister for Education, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, in Hanoi on Tuesday.
He was joined by Vietnam's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Education and Training, Professor Nguyen Thien Nhan.
The aim of the initiative is to expose Vietnamese educators to developments in school leadership, and give them a first-hand experience of the Singapore school system.
Core trainers will undergo a two-week course in Singapore, while the others will split their training time between Vietnam and Singapore.
Mr Tharman said the aim is to "train the trainers" and leverage on the multiplier effect. With that, he said nearly 2,000 teachers in Vietnam stand to benefit.
The programme will train 480 school leaders this year. With the initial batch of 30 participants starting at the end of this month, this year will see 150 core trainers and 330 provincial trainers come under the scheme.
Temasek Foundation will contribute S$2.1 million to fund the first phase of training. - CNA/ac
