SINGAPORE : Boxing was popular in Singapore during the 1960s and 1970s and it took centre stage again on Sunday at a community sports carnival in Sembawang.
MP for Sembawang GRC Mohamad Maliki Osman entered the ring to help promote the sport at the Sembawang Constituency Sports Carnival 2008.
But Dr Maliki ducked out of the ring before the real punches started to fly.
The carnival was organised to show support for Singapore's hosting of the 2010 Youth Olympic Games, and to encourage people to bond and build strong social networks through shared interests.
Residents got the chance to try different sports such as archery and croquet to highlight the different sports. - CNA/ms
