S'pore comes in third in Asian Hockey Federation Cup

SINGAPORE: Singapore gets third place in the Asian Hockey Federation Cup. In the game held at Delta Stadium, the Singapore team beat Sri Lanka 4-0 to clinch the spot.

The first two goals found the back of the goal post in the first half of the game, while the other two, took place in the second half.

Bangladesh won the Cup after an exciting match against Oman.

The team finished 6-1 to grab the top spot.

Nine countries took part in this tournament, including China, Uzbekistan and Brunei.

Singapore said that this game, together with the co-hosting of the 2009 Men's Junior World Cup with Malaysia and the 2010 Youth Olympic Games will be a boost for Singapore hockey.

This tournament also serves as the start of the qualification process for the Men's World Cup in 2010. - CNA/vm
