SYDNEY: A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 struck off the Solomon Islands on Tuesday, seismologists said, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The undersea quake struck at 08:40 am (2140 GMT Monday) 133 kilometres east of Kira Kira, which is on San Cristobal island, and 371 kilometres east-southeast of the capital Honiara, the US Geological Survey said.
It occurred at a depth of 52 kilometres, the USGS said.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre in Hawaii did not issue an alert for the region.
