TAIPEI - A 5.4-magnitude underground earthquake jolted eastern Taiwan on Saturday, the Central Weather Bureau said, but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
The tremor struck at 2:55am (1855 GMT Friday) and was centred 6.3 kilometres (4 miles) southwest of the eastern Hualien city at a depth of 16.7 kilometres, the bureau said.
It was followed by two smaller aftershocks within six hours.Taiwan, which lies near the junction of two tectonic plates, is regularly shaken by earthquakes. - AFP
