BEIJING: While the spotlight may be on Beijing right now, members of the Singapore organising committee for the inaugural 2010 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) are in the Chinese capital to see how things are being run.

They have also been meeting organisers of the Beijing and London Games to learn more about details such as transport and spectator needs.

Later this year, the YOG organisers intend to formalise their foundation plan for the Singapore event, which will outline details such as the location of sporting venues.

This will be followed by a more comprehensive plan next year, detailing aspects such as the designation of road traffic lanes for Olympic-related vehicles and the number of volunteers.

The committee is seeking about 7,000 volunteers to help run the Games and so far, it has received applications from some 5,000 volunteers.

A member of the organising committee told Channel NewsAsia that so far, the pace of planning - from charting the foundation to the eventual operational phase - has been proceeding on schedule.
