SINGAPORE: The Children Development Co-Savings Amendment Bill was introduced in Parliament on Monday.
When the Bill is passed, it will bring into effect the changes to the maternity and parenthood benefits announced by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong during the National Day Rally in August.
Women who give birth to Singapore citizens in Singapore will be eligible for an additional four weeks of full-pay maternity leave, bringing the total to 16 weeks.
Paid childcare leave for parents with children under seven years old will be extended from two days a year to six days.
Parents who have a child under two years of age will be eligible for six days of unpaid infant care leave per year.
The Bill also allows for the benefits to be backdated to mothers who gave birth from 17 August 2008 - the date of the National Day Rally. - CNA/vm
