Malaysian PM calls on President Nathan at Istana

SINGAPORE: On Friday afternoon, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak called on Singapore's President, S R Nathan, while Mrs Nathan hosted a tea for the Malaysian prime minister's wife.

During the meeting, Mr Nathan and Mr Najib agreed that both countries should continue to explore areas of cooperation to strengthen bilateral ties.

President Nathan also expressed appreciation for the assistance and cooperation of the Malaysian security authorities, which led to the recapture of Mas Selamat Kastari.

Both leaders noted that cooperation between the security agencies remains strong through the years and has helped ensure the safety and security of both countries.

Prime Minister Najib also met Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong.

Both leaders exchanged views on bilateral ties and noted the long-standing close cooperation between the two countries.

They agreed that the current economic climate calls for closer cooperation between the two countries, both at the regional and bilateral levels.
