SINGAPORE: The Youth Olympic Games (YOG) is just a year away and leading up to this inaugural games is a Friendship Camp for the young athletes who are coming from all over the world.

Singapore's Education Ministry (MOE), which is organising it along with the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC) and the Singapore Sports School, said the camp will also promote Olympic values.

Education Minister Ng Eng Hen said: "This Friendship Camp aims to develop friendship and collaboration between young people in Singapore and the world. It will also provide a platform for participants to learn about the values of Olympism."

Dr Ng disclosed this on Saturday during an Appreciation Tea for some 500 student and teacher volunteers who were part of a 5,500-strong volunteer group who helped out at the recent Asian Youth Games in Singapore.

The Friendship Camp will take place from December 8 to 12 this year at the Singapore Sports School. 400 participants from 200 National Olympic Committees, along with 100 school athletes from Singapore, are expected to take part in the programme.

Besides featuring Asian Cultural Booths, which were part of MOE's Culture and Education Programme during the Asian Youth Games, the camp will also celebrate the rich diversity of global cultures and arts.

On top of that, campers will participate in an exciting range of activities where they can learn new sports and elements of sports science.
