SINGAPORE : Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will address the nation on Sunday in his National Day Rally speech against the backdrop of global economic and security challenges.

Political observers said Mr Lee, in his Malay address, is expected to take stock of the Malay-Muslim community's achievements and outline some challenges they face, both at the national and community levels.

He is also expected to speak on the importance of training and retraining programmes for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Besides taking stock of the economy and the effectiveness of the S$20.5 billion Resilience Package announced in this year's Budget to tackle the economic downturn, MPs Channel NewsAsia spoke to said Mr Lee is likely to dwell on the importance of national integration.

They said this subject is of great importance in light of growing acts of terrorism and racial strife in the world.
