Indonesia, which sits along a fault-line, has been reeling from a series of aftershocks following a major earthquake on Wednesday night. The quake set off tremors from Singapore to Thailand and seven tsunami warnings that were withdrawn by the Indonesian government in under 48 hours.

1st quake

  • Location: 100km southwest of the city of Bengkulu, west coast of Sumatra
  • Quake depth: About 30km
    Indonesia sounded 1st tsunami warning.
    Tremors felt in: Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand
    Other areas which issued tsunami warnings: Malaysia, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, India, Mauritius, the US Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre

  • Time: 9:40pm (1440 GMT)
  • Location: 70km southwest of the city of Bengkulu
  • Quake depth: About 18km
    Indonesia sounded 2nd tsunami alert.

  • Time: 6:49am (2349 GMT)
  • Location: 140km southwest of the town of Jambi, central Sumatra
  • Quake depth: About 24km
