Shake, rattle & snap

  Collapsed car showroom,Padang,Indonesia

The mobile phone has found another use ... to document the aftermath of earthquakes.
When the Indonesian city of Padang was hit by an earthquake on Wednesday, people were out on the streets in numbers, but not all of them could say they were being evacuated from buildings.

A car showroom which imploded after a quake was the photo subject for 25 year old student Ahmed, who explained, "my hobby is journalism". A 45-year-old motorcyclist went one step further and took a short video "for a souvenir."

It doesn't matter if there are victims. When a body was removed from under the rubble of the collapsed car showroom, camera-phones clicked. Grabbing a picture of the scene with his phone, was a worker with Indonesia's meteorological agency, but he quickly added that the shot was "just for my personal collection".

In Singapore, where the earthquakes in Indonesia set of tremors, cameras were out in force as well to record the experience.
Minutes after people felt the tremors, Channel NewsAsia received many video clips, sent
online and via email( yournews@channelnewsasia.com ) to the Your News team.

There are close to half a dozen pages of video clips on the Your News website documenting the tremors experienced by Singaporeans.
With space online for more contributions, Channel NewsAsia has also introduced the MMS option
+ 65 9780 8282 for people in Singapore and around the region to send their clips on earthquakes or anything issue that is news.
