Fast Facts: Budget '08 for Singaporeans

  Singapore's The Esplanade

The Government will spend S$900m over 5 years to upgrade 3 hospitals.

To boost the manpower in the health sector Singapore will spend S$1b over 5 years to recruit and train more healthcare professionals.

The Monthly Public Assistance rate for a single-person household will go up S$330.

Growth dividends will be given to all adult Singaporeans in April, October this year.

Medisave accounts of those aged 51 and above will be topped-up by $150 to $450; ElderCare Fund by $400 million and Medifund $200 million.

LIFE Bonus for those aged 46-50 this year and sign-on bonus called L-Bonus for those above 50 who join CPF LIFE.

ComCare Fund topped up by $200 million this year, bringing it to $800 million.

Growth Dividends of between $400 and $100 to be given to Singaporeans depending on age and annual home value.

Government pensioners will have Singapore Allowance increased further by $20 per month with gross pension ceiling also up from $1,150 to $1,170.

Total of $1.8 billion worth of benefits given to Singaporeans as part of Government's surplus sharing package.
