SINGAPORE: Coca-Cola Singapore will launch a special limited edition Coca-Cola can on Sunday to celebrate the successful Youth Olympic Games bid by Singapore.

To mark the year 2010 when the first-ever Youth Olympics will take place in the city-state, a total of 201,000 cans will be produced.

They will be sold along Orchard Road from Sunday at S$1 per can, and the company will donate all net proceeds to the Singapore Disabilities Sports Council.

The limited edition cans come in vibrant colours, displaying the silhouette of an Olympic athlete inset with a Singapore flag against a backdrop of Olympic rings and fireworks.

Teo Ser Luck, Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) said he is pleased to have private businesses’ support as massive planning for the games kicks in.

“As we embark on this journey to hosting the games of the highest stature ever to be held here, we are not going to walk it alone,” he said.

“We are pleased to have Coca-Cola support sports and inspire Singaporeans from all walks of life to help make history by organising the first Youth Olympic Games.”

On Thursday, Singapore beat fellow finalist Moscow to emerge as host for the inaugural Youth Olympics in 2010.

Coca-Cola, a long-standing corporate sponsor of the Olympic games, congratulated Singapore on its win, and said that the Games will be a momentous occasion for sports in Singapore.

The 2010 Games will see some 3,500 athletes, aged between 14 and 18, competing in 26 sports.
