SINGAPORE : Woodlands made hard work of DPMM Brunei on Friday night, just edging out the visitors 1-0 in their RHB Singapore Cup opening round clash at Woodlands Stadium.
In an entertaining encounter, DPMM let Woodlands off the hook with some wayward finishing, while the home side missed a penalty in the second half.
The only goal of the game came in the 38th minute via the boot of Akihiro Nakamura, whose crisp strike from the edge of the box hit the left hand upright and into goal off the back of unfortunate DPMM keeper, Wardun Yussof.
This is the fifth time in succession DPMM have been bundled out in the first round, and on three occasions now the Malaysian Super League team have been dumped out with 1-0 scorelines.
They did serve up an attacking brand of football, with their Cameroon striker Keita Mandjou a lively figure.
He was unlucky to see a header come back off the post and DPMM also fluffed a few good chances. – TODAY /ls
