SINGAPORE: Defending champions SAFFC climbed into third place behind Etoile FC and leaders Tampines Rovers, after handing hosts Sengkang Punggol a 3-1 defeat in their Great Eastern-Yeo's S.League 2010 encounter at the Hougang Stadium on Monday night.

Striker Indra Sahdan Daud gave the Warriors the lead after just four minutes, but the Warriors lost the advantage eight minutes later when national defender Daniel Bennett scored an own goal.

SAFFC midfielder Taisuke Akiyoshi gave them the edge again in the 28th minute and sealed victory with another goal in the 71st minute.

The Warriors are now two points behind Tampines and only adrift of French outfit Etoile on goal difference.

In another match at the Jurong East Stadium, home side Albirex Niigata from Japan failed to lift themselves off the bottom of the table when they drew 0-0 with Gombak United. -
