SINGAPORE: Bangkok University made short work of a poor Albirex Niigata at Jurong East Stadium in Sunday night's RHB Singapore Cup 2008 preliminary round match, running out 4-1 winners.
The visitors started slowly, but once they settled into their rhythm there was no stopping them, as Bangkok University joined fellow Thai side, Tobacco Monopoly, in the last eight of the competition.
Bangkok University arrived without midfielder Ryuji Sueoka, the former Albirex, Geylang and Balestier star.
Fielding an all-Thai first XI, their passing and tackling were clearly superior compared to the S-League side and once Suriya Domtaisong opened the scoring in the 24th minute, there was only going to be one winner.
Ramthep Chaipan, who created the first goal, also supplied the pass for the second, which Nopphon Phon-Udom converted three minutes later to make it 2-0.
A third goal arrived in the 39th minute via Suppasek Kaikaew and Suriya netted his second nine minutes after the break, as Bangkok set up a last eight clash with the Young Lions.
Akira Takase grabbed a consolation goal for the home side 15 minutes from time. - TODAY
