AYG: S'pore gets one bronze Girls' 4 by 100m medley relay swimming event

SINGAPORE: Two gold and three bronze medals for Singapore from the pool so far and the Republic added another bronze, the only one from the pool on Saturday.

The girls 4x100 medley team was the only medal winner for Singapore at the Sports School in Saturday's competition.

Singapore's quartet took third spot with their time of 4 min 13.34 seconds.

Korea clinched gold with their time of 4:9.87 and in second place, Hong Kong, stopping the clock at 4:12.92.

Singapore's other swimmer came close to a podium finish.

In the girls’ 50 metre Butterfly, Singapore's Tiffany Koh came in fifth with a time of 29.27 seconds.

Winning her second gold was China's Liu Lan.

In the boys event, Chang Gyu-cheol of South Korea swam away from the rest of the field to take gold in a time of 24.78 seconds.

It was also his second gold at the games.

Singapore's Dzulhali Kamal just missed out on a medal.

He finished fourth with a time of 25.83 seconds.

Abdullah Al-thu-wai-ni also joined the doubles club.

He took the 200 meters backstroke title to add to his 100 metre crown.

Singapore's Rainer Ng came in fifth and Yeo Jua Chen finished one place further back in sixth.

The first gold at the pool today went to Jung Ha-eun of South Korea.

Her time of 1 minute 8.43 seconds won her the Girls' 100m breaststroke.

Singapore's Ho Ru'En Roanne was missed the podium with her fourth place finish and time of 1 minute 12.98 seconds.

And Lionel Khoo was also fourth in the boys 100 metres breastroke with a timing of 1 minute 5.09 seconds .

And it was a dramatic photo finish for the top spot.

Ketin Nuttapong of Thailand lunged at the wall to tap home the same time as China's Wang Ximing.

They both clocked in at 1 minute 4.45 seconds and so both were awarded gold. -CNA/vm
