Lenovo showed off a bucket load of shiny, happy computers at the 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Highlights include its first multi-touch AIO (all-in-one) desktop, a wallet-friendly ultraportable ThinkPad and a convertible multi-touch netbook-tablet. Plus, what Lenovo claims to be the industry's thinnest AIO desktop, and a spiffy smartphone-netbook hybrid that, tragically, is not coming to our sunny island.
Lenovo C310
The C310 is Lenovo's first multi-touch AIO desktop. Its 20-inch, 16:9 widescreen HD display supports Lenovo NaturalTouch capacitive multi-touch technology. Complementing the touch user interface is Lenovo's IdeaTouch - a raft of touch-optimised multimedia applications. With Intel Atom 330 dual core processors, 4GB of memory, 640GB hard disk drive, a discrete graphics card and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 512MB, the C310 is targeted at the multimedia enthusiast who enjoys videos, music and games on his computer.
IdeaPad S10-3t
We're not sure if convertible tablet-like thingamajigs are still in these days but Lenovo's latest origami project is pretty cool.
The IdeaPad S10-3t (S$899) netbook-tablet relies on NaturalTouch for easy, responsive finger navigation of objects on the 10.1-inch screen. Swivel the screen 180 degrees and fold it to easily transform the netbook into a touch tablet.
This computer features Intel Atom N470 processors, a 320GB hard disk drive, and stereo speakers with Dolby Headphone certification. The new Quick Start 2.0's instant-on function lets you access applications and the Internet in a matter of seconds without the need to boot up the Windows operating system. Maplife location-based mapping software and VeriFace face recognition technology have been incorporated as well. With an eight-cell battery, this machine can chug on for seven hours.
IdeaCentre A300
If you've got limited tabletop space, get the IdeaCentre A300, an AIO with a quirky asymmetrical design that hides the computer in its base, and a 21.5-inch full-HD LED panel that measures just 18.5mm. Boasting Intel Core 2 Duo processors, this desktop features the Lenovo Enhanced Experience for Windows 7 certification, which promises an optimised boot and shutdown process, rich multimedia capabilities and easy system maintenance tools. HDMI in/out is supported and 802.11n WiFi integrated.
ThinkPad X100e
The X100e is a ThinkPad with an insanely attractive starting price of $1,019.
This ultraportable also signifies Lenovo and AMD's virgin collaborative effort to offer AMD processors on ThinkPad laptops - you get a choice of AMD Athlon Neo single and dual core processors and Turion dual core processors.
Weighing 1.36kg with a three-cell battery, the X100e sports an 11.6-inch HD display and a full-sized, spill-resistant keyboard with UltraNav Trackpoint and a multi-gesture touchpad.
It supports up to 4GB of RAM, and up to 320GB of hard drive storage. Wireless connectivity options include 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth and 3G. Battery life's estimated at two hours on the three-cell battery, and five hours on the six-cell battery.
And here's a shocker: You get a choice of colours - red or black. Colours on a ThinkPad? That's hot.
Skylight Smartbook
Here's something users in Singapore will not get to enjoy - the Lenovo Skylight Smartbook. To be launched in the United States, Europe and China later this year, this smartphone-netbook hybrid is powered by the Qualcomm 1GHz Snapdragon chipset platform, promising top-notch mobile processing performance and optimised power consumption that affords an astonishing 10-hour battery life.
This clamshell beauty weighs less like 0.91kg and boasts a 10.1-inch HD screen and a full-sized keyboard. Its unique custom interface is centred on live web gadgets, with more than 18 pre-loaded.
Skylight seamlessly handoffs between WiFi and 3G, and features 20GB of flash memory and 2GB of cloud storage.
It comes in two colours: Glossy lotus blue and earth red (manufacturer's description, not ours).
Prices start at US$499 (S$700).
