The Leopard in action

Mac Users in Singapore are among the first to get their hands on the new Mac OS X Leopard which was made available on Friday evening. And those who've been waiting for the sixth release from Mac will not be disappointed.

It's not just the 300 or so applications that have been either refreshed or are totally new, but the rich and visually stimulating experience that users get to enjoy along the way.

Describing the desktop as being "beyond skin deep" in its beauty, was Darren Sng, Apple's Product Marketing Manager for the Asia Pacific, who had the 'tough' job of showing off the capabilities of the Leopard which drew a fair share of "oohs and ahhs" from those present.

Top draw was Quick Look, a favourite with Sng and others who have stacks of files on their Mac. The advantage of Quick Look is its ability to let users take a look at what's in a file, and not just the first page of what's contained inside, but every page. Apart from flipping through the documents in a file, you can also take a quick peek into the media stashed inside, by playing them to see if you really need to open them up.

With the redesigned dock with Stacks, users also get to stack up their files in imaginatively different ways.

Sng, in revealing that 26% of Mac users don't backup their data, as discovered in survey, went on to introduce a handy tool called Time Machine. The aptly called application which will make users believe that they are travelling in a time tunnel, will automatically back up and restore documents created on the Mac. If you don't remember when or where, just ask the Time Machine and it'll spin back in time, to cough up the item which can then be placed in the present.

Email is no longer boring with Leopard and neither is iChat, where you can share screens apart from secrets with your buddy across the globe.

What would be the most appealing to the individual in everyone is Webclip, an application which will clip your favourite sites and place them as a widget on your desktop, so what you get in the end, is a Mac as individual as you.
