May: Argentina
It’s a long journey from Singapore
to South America but if
any country warrants a stab at
the continent, Argentina is it.
The major cities, capital Buenos Aires in particular, sport
a sophisticated European vibe
while the countryside is blessed
with some truly remarkable geographical
formations. Trek on glaciers at El Calafate
or plunge into the cataracts at Iguazu Falls, a 2.7km horse-shoe shaped panorama of gushing water so magnificent it looks like it’s been digitally created. Unspeakably beautiful is the landscape in Patagonia in May, when the hills burst into vivid, autumnal colours.
Once taxing on the pocket, Argentina is extremely affordable since a currency crisis in 2000 cheapened the peso, but prices are on the rise.
