Guide Huaxuan’s first challenge of the new year is to cycle from Dongshi, Taichung all the way up Snow Mountain. In order to avoid competing with cars for the lane, we have chosen to cycle along Dongfeng Green Bike Corridor, acclaimed as the most beautiful route in central Taiwan. Not only is it a lush green route, there are numerous historic railway tracks preserved along the way.

Located on Dongfeng Green Bike Corridor, Meizi Station was once abandoned when the railway line shut down. However, thanks to the effort of the community, it has now become a great leisure area. The simple, ancient platform décor seems to tell stories about mini-trains providing transport between the mountains and the city back then. Two summers ago, I met Jason and his family in Hualien’s clearest area, Mukumugi. One summer night last year, I returned to Hualien, sang and danced my heart out to Ami cha-cha, and spent a passionate night there. This year, in winter, I got onto the train again. My destination is still Hualien. I am going to visit my amazing old friend, and revisit the coziest good times in my memories.
