Former Thai PM Tanin Kraivixien named new Privy Council head

Tanin had been the country's Prime Minister for a year in the 1970s before he was toppled in a coup and appointed to King Bhumibol's Privy Council.

BANGKOK: Thailand's former Prime Minister Tanin Kraivixien has been named president of its Privy Council, according to the king's principal private secretary office website on Wednesday (Oct 19).

Tanin, 89, was Prime Minister from October 1976 to October 1977. He was appointed to the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej's Privy Council after his leadership was toppled in a coup.

Tanin replaces the country's temporary regent, Prem Tinsulanonda.
