No need to reopen 1MDB investigations: Malaysia's Public Accounts Committee

In a statement, committee chairman Hasan Arifin says it had already laid out a comprehensive report on the case and recommended stern action on the management of the state fund.

KUALA LUMPUR: There is no need for the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in Malaysia to reopen investigations into 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), PAC's chairman Hasan Arifin said on Monday (Aug 8).

Opposition Member of Parliament Tony Pua had wanted the PAC to study the case again, following the US Justice Department's filing of civil lawsuits to seize assets worth more than US$1 billion reportedly stolen from the controversial state fund.

In a statement, Mr Hasan said the committee had already prepared a comprehensive report on 1MDB earlier this year and had recommended authorities to enforce stern action on its management.

Mr Hasan also said the contents of the report had been agreed upon by all committee members before it was tabled in parliament, and were widely reported by both local and international media.
