5 Insta-worthy, yummy brunch spotsFeast your eyes (and belly) at these lovely locations
A question for the (new) ages: If it doesn't appear on social media, did it even happen at all? Worthy of its own hashtag (#photosofasianstakingphotosoffood), there's no need to deny that we taste with our eyes as much as with our tongues. So for those who are doin' it for the ’gram, here are five Insta-worthy brunch spots that serve up some great tasting dishes to boot.
1. The Assembly Ground
It's probably no surprise that The Assembly Ground gets its good looks from big brother The Benjamin Barker Group, who's also responsible for other stylish hangouts like B Store and B Burger. Stepping into The Assembly Ground is like walking into a coffee house in Melbourne with a raw, eclectic interior that liberally references the city's cycling culture. In addition to some classic brunch menu items such as pizzas, burgers and eggs, be sure to try some of their local-inspired dishes as well, like the Rendang Mac & Cheese, Hae Bee Hiam Aglio Olio, and Laksa Pasta Mai Hum.
This place is so hip it almost hurts. The spacious loft-like cafe is in the Lasalle College of the Arts campus, which may account for some of its style cred. Expect full-blown industrial chic interiors including hanging exposed filament lamps, corrugated metal walls, refurbished wooden pallets, and long communal tables (usually strewn with laptops and other school-life paraphernalia). Check out the Korean Chicken Burger that comes with Fried Topoki on the side, and wash down your meal with a glass of ice-cold coffee (LOWERCASE serves speciality artisanal blends by Dockyard Coffee, a local small-batch roaster). Oh yes, and all menu prices are nett. Sweet!
