A question for the (new) ages: If it doesn't appear on social media, did it even happen at all? Worthy of its own hashtag (#photosofasianstakingphotosoffood), there's no need to deny that we taste with our eyes as much as with our tongues. So for those who are doin' it for the ’gram, here are five Insta-worthy brunch spots that serve up some great tasting dishes to boot.

1. The Assembly Ground

It's probably no surprise that The Assembly Ground gets its good looks from big brother The Benjamin Barker Group, who's also responsible for other stylish hangouts like B Store and B Burger. Stepping into The Assembly Ground is like walking into a coffee house in Melbourne with a raw, eclectic interior that liberally references the city's cycling culture. In addition to some classic brunch menu items such as pizzas, burgers and eggs, be sure to try some of their local-inspired dishes as well, like the Rendang Mac & Cheese, Hae Bee Hiam Aglio Olio, and Laksa Pasta Mai Hum.

2 Handy Road, The Cathay, #01-21 Tel: 6733 3375

This place is so hip it almost hurts. The spacious loft-like cafe is in the Lasalle College of the Arts campus, which may account for some of its style cred. Expect full-blown industrial chic interiors including hanging exposed filament lamps, corrugated metal walls, refurbished wooden pallets, and long communal tables (usually strewn with laptops and other school-life paraphernalia). Check out the Korean Chicken Burger that comes with Fried Topoki on the side, and wash down your meal with a glass of ice-cold coffee (LOWERCASE serves speciality artisanal blends by Dockyard Coffee, a local small-batch roaster). Oh yes, and all menu prices are nett. Sweet!

1 McNally Street, Blk D #01-01 Tel: 6337 5581

The art deco elements and colourful painted walls of WANNA CUPPA combine with their “indoor garden” concept to create a supremely Insta-worthy setting (even their toilets are super stylish). Menu-wise, expect classics like eggs, pancakes, paninis and pastas. Run by an Australian, WANNA CUPPA’s coffees are served in double ristretto shots and are made from award-winning Signature Blend coffee beans by Justin Metcalf World Barista Judge, with gourmet teas from Canada to go with their solid selection of cakes and pastries. Pro tip: the foliage wall near the front of the café makes for a beautiful backdrop when hit with natural light.

4. KARA Cafe & Dessert Bar

Tropical foliage-themed murals, Scandinavian-chic furnishings, pastels and rose gold? Welcome to the millennial's dream come true. From the same people behind well-loved local frozen yogurt company, Sogurt, KARA Cafe & Dessert Bar serves up equally millennial-styled dishes such as Grain Bowls, Grilled Toasties, and Mochi Waffles. Extremely delicious options include the Quinoa Salad Grain Bowl with Pork Belly Miso (topped with crunchy ramen bits), KARA Homemade Soup (smoked tomato sprinkled with roasted sesame and seaweed), and Matcha Berry Mochi Waffles (all desserts come with premium handcrafted ice cream or frozen yoghurt). Yes, it's definitely worth the calorie count.

617 Bukit Timah Road Tel: 6468 8940

5. Nesuto

There's absolutely nothing more delicate and heavenly than Japanese-French pastry, which Nesuto pairs beautifully with dusky pink walls, glossy marble counters, and sleek metallic accents. Even the tableware here is Insta-worthy, with tea sets and cutlery accented in gold. The focus here is on tea, not coffee, with light and floral oriental blends sourced from Taiwan and Japan. High Tea is a big affair there, with both sweet and savoury bites served in a very elegant gold half-cage. If there is one piece of advice to be given: dress accordingly, it’s an Insta-worthy moment you won’t want to miss.
