Tuck into pillowy Idlis (steamed savoury rice cake), crisp Pooris (deep-fried bread) and delicious Upma Pesarattu (moong dhal dosa stuffed with thick semolina). Another must-try is the giant family Dosa, perfect for sharing. All of them served with a tangy Sambar (vegetable stew) and up to eight different flavours of chutneys. VISIT A HISTORIC MONUMENT
For a spot of history, visit the Charminar, a monument and mosque built more than 400 years ago to commemorate the end of a devastating plague. The world-famous icon is also referred to as the ‘Arc de Triomphe of the East’, after another global icon in Paris. Explore the arch and marvel at the dome-shaped roof of the mosque and its Indo-Islamic interior built from granite and lime mortar. Flanked by four minarets, the Charminar stands tall and proud in the heart of the Old City of Hyderabad, and houses a Hindu temple at its base and a mosque on the top floor. Its minarets offer sweeping views of the city, including another grand mosque, the Mecca Masjid, the largest in India.

PAY TRIBUTE TO INDIA’S RICHLY DIVERSE ARTS HERITAGE
Get a glimpse of India’s tribal lifestyle at Shilparamam Arts and Crafts Village, a cultural museum set within a rural village. Established in 1992, this exhibition hub is made up of 15 clay-and-thatch huts showcasing the best in Indian art. From pottery and woodwork to weaves, idols and exotic textiles, almost everything here is handmade by artisans and up for purchase. The Madhubani paintings at the art gallery (done with fingers, twigs, brushes, nib-pens, and matchsticks) are not to be missed, nor are the remarkable natural rock formations at the rock museum. Before you leave, stroll through the lush green lawns as you admire terracotta sculptures and maybe even take a boat out into the lake. Shilparamam also hosts year-round arts festivals and dance performances.
Golconda Fort
16:00
EXPLORE AN ANCIENT FORT
Take a walk through time at the Golconda Fort, an impressive citadel built on a granite hill 120 metres high. The ancient fort, listed as an archeological treasure, was originally built from mud more than 500 years ago. It is made up of eight massive gateways, drawbridges, and four separate forts, some still sporting cannons. Take a peek into how royals lived in the 13th century as you wander the grounds. The Fort also has impressive acoustics, designed to facilitate communication. A hard clap made under the dome can be heard from the highest pavilion more than a kilometre away. There is certainly a lot to cover at the Golconda Fort so hire a guide who can show you the most significant parts of the structure. If time permits, stay for the evening light and sound show that recounts the history of Golconda with the illuminated ruins as a beautiful backdrop.

TAKE AN EVENING STROLL ALONG A MAN-MADE WONDER
Wind down with a walk along the Hussain Sagar Lake, Asia's largest artificial lake, built in 1563 as a tribute to Hussain Shah Wali. The 5.7 square kilometres, necklace-shaped lake connects the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Fed by the River Musi, the lake initially catered to the irrigation needs of the city, and is now a hot spot for water activities like fishing, parasailing, and water skiing. The main attraction, however, is the monolithic, free-standing Buddha stone statue situated right at the heart of the lake. Get a close up look at the statue by hiring a boat from Lumbini Park, an amusement park located on the banks of the lake.
