'Tis the (durian) season: 7 places to get your fix of the king of fruits

Craving durian? From Mao Shan Wang varieties to durian-infused desserts, here's where to get your yearnings satisfied in Singapore.

Durian lovers, durian season is in full swing right now and chances are, this is probably your favourite time of the year. Lucky for you, durian is practically a national obsession here in Singapore, which means there are plenty of options if you’re craving for the king of fruits.

Whether it’s sinking your teeth into the fruit itself or indulging in durian desserts, here’s where you can get your fix.

99 OLD TREES

99 Old Trees is a specialty durian retail outlet, managed directly by Fook Gor Durian Farm in West Pahang. It offers a wide variety of durian, including red prawn, jinfeng and the classic Mao Shan Wang that you can buy from its outlet at Owen Road, or order online.

Packages include 700g Black Gold Mao Shang Wang (S$75), 700g Mao Shan Wang D197 (S$65), 700g Jinfeng D198 (S$56) and more. There’s free delivery for orders above S$150. Otherwise, island-wide delivery is available at a fee of S$6.90.

FOUR SEASONS DURIAN

Fancy a 3D Mao Shan Wang cake? You’ll find that on Four Seasons Durian’s online menu. Four Seasons Durian was established as a fresh fruit stall in the early 70s, but has now evolved into a full-fledged durian-themed confectionery store.

Aside from cakes, you’ll also find durian pancakes, mochis, puffs, crepe, roll cakes and even durian kaya on the menu. There’s free delivery for orders above S$60, or you can also choose to pick up from Four Seasons’ outlets at Nex, Ang Mo Kio Hub or Jewel Changi Airport.

For any durian lover, Goodwood Park Hotel’s yearly Durian Fiesta is always a highlight. Good news – the fiesta is still ongoing till Aug 1. Order a range of durian pastries specially curated by the hotel’s pastry chefs, including the D24 Pandan Waffle Cake, D24 Sweet Potato in Chestnut Tartlets, D24 Mousse Cake and more. These delicacies are available for dining-in at The Deli, takeaway, or ordered online for delivery or self-collection.

GOLDEN MOMENTS

What do you do if you have a sudden durian craving but don't want the hassle of picking out your own fruit at a shop? Order from Golden Moments, which delivers your order within 90 minutes. Packages include a bundle of three 350g Black Gold Pahang Hill-top Premium Mao Shan Wang packs (S$108), a bundle of three 350g Champion Red Prawn Packed Durian (S$89) and more.

Apart from the fruit, Golden Moments also sells whole cakes, puffs, mochi and more. Delivery fee is charged at S$12 or S$5.99 for orders above S$150.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is just around the corner, and hotels are now beginning to roll out their mooncake menus for early bird orders. Durian enthusiasts will be glad to know that Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium’s best-selling Peranakan Durian Snowskin Mooncake is back.

There’s a 40 per cent discount all orders placed on the hotel’s eShop before Aug 15. The mooncakes are available for order till Sep 18, for collection or delivery from Aug 22.

ROYAL DURIAN

Royal Durian bills itself as Singapore’s only Mao Shan Wang specialty store, with a waitlist that apparently stretches to three weeks. Each box of Royal Durian’s Mao Shan Wang is priced at S$68 for 650g. Customers can pre-order via WhatsApp at 8186 8552.

If you’re hankering after durian desserts instead, head down to Royal Durian’s outlet at Jurong Gateway Road. Here, you’ll find all sorts of durian sweet treats including ice cream, puffs, cakes and mousse.
