It all started with 1,200 hopefuls who came from Singapore, Malaysia, China, Indonesia and Canada, among other countries, to seek out stardom at the 2019 Star Search auditions in May.
That number was whittled down to just 24 by July. These contestants then embarked on a training programme with celebrity mentors – Christopher Lee, Huang Biren and Chen Hanwei – to get them ready for the semi-finals in October.
Now – after the dust has settled from the two semi-final shows – 12 finalists will be battling it out for the title of the 2019 Star Search winner at the Grand Final this Sunday (Nov 3).
The 12 finalists are: Zane Lim, Vanessa Ho, Chang Hio Cheng, Herman Keh, Jernelle Oh, Juin The, Tyler Ten, Teoh Ze Tong, Kiki Lim, Ye Jia Yun, Sheryl Ang and Zhai Si Ming.
The hopefuls have gone through a lot to get here. Some had to re-enact a raw fish-eating scene as performed by former Star Search winner Desmond Tan in the drama, When Duty Calls, while others had to learn to cry on cue and impress their celebrity mentor, Lee.
The big winner will walk away with the top prize of an Audi Q2 and a Mediacorp contract.
It won’t be easy, though. They first have to impress not one, but three, veteran Hong Kong celebrities – Carina Lau, Simon Yam and Stephen Fung – who will be judging their performance that night.
Break a leg, everyone!
Star Search 2019 Grand Finals will air on Nov 3, 7pm on Ch 8 and Toggle.
