If you’ve ever dreamt of being in a K-pop girl group, now’s your chance to realise that dream – provided you have what it takes, of course.
Big Hit Entertainment – home to megastars BTS – and their newly acquired label Source Music are looking for the next big thing in girl groups and they’re holding global auditions to find these future stars.
The Plus Global Audition will take place in 16 cities around the world with Singapore as one of the stops on Oct 12.
Registration opened on Tuesday (Sep 10) on the official site and will close six days before the audition date in each region.
Only girls born between 2001 and 2007 (12 years old to 18 years old) can apply by filling in the online application form. Applicants who pass the preliminary stage will be informed to attend the audition. Finalists will be chosen within four weeks of the audition.
Other stops include Los Angeles, New York, Melbourne, Hanoi, Bangkok, Osaka and Taipei.
The new group is expected to debut in 2021.
Big Hit acquired Source Music in July, moving the company towards a multi-label structure and expanding its range of artists, with “a high growth potential in the girl group category,” according to the company.
CEO Bang Si-hyuk will oversee production of the music, while chief brand officer Min Hee-jin will lead the creative direction and branding of the new band. This will be the company’s first girl group since Min joined in July.
BTS was the highest-paid boyband and K-pop act in 2019 after taking home US$57 million (S$78.8 million) in pre-tax income over the past year, according to Forbes. This was mostly due to their tours and stadium shows, as well as album sales.
