K-pop band Blackpink has made history by becoming the highest-charting Korean girl group on the US Billboard albums chart.

The group’s debut full-length release, titled The Album, hit No 2 on the charts with 110,000 equivalent album units, reported Korean media, citing Billboard on Sunday (Oct 11).

Out of that number, 81,000 was from traditional album sales while the rest came from streaming and digital downloads.

The Album is also the highest-charting album by an all-female group since Danity Kane debuted at No 1 in 2008 with their sophomore effort.

And Blackpink is not just making history in the US. Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa and Rose have also hit No 2 on the UK charts with their album, according to Forbes, coming second only to Queen and Adam Lambert’s Live Around The World album.

The Album has seen three singles out so far: How You Like That, Ice Cream (featuring Selena Gomez) and Lovesick Girls.

The video for Lovesick Girls received some flak recently when South Korea’s medical workers' union raised concerns about Jennie dressed as a sexy nurse, which they considered to be a negative stereotype of the profession. Scenes featuring Jennie dressed in the outfit are being removed from the music video.
