Zachery Ty Bryan, who played the eldest son in the 1990s Tim Allen comedy Home Improvement, was arrested on Saturday (Oct 17) in Oregon on suspicion of strangling his girlfriend.

He was booked on three charges: strangulation, fourth-degree assault and interfering with making a report, according to ET Online, citing jail records.

A police representative told the entertainment portal that according to an investigation, the 39-year-old Bryan had “assaulted the victim, impeded her breathing, and taken the victim’s phone from her when she tried to call 911”.

He has since been released from police custody.

Bryan recently separated from his wife on Oct 1 after 14 years together and four children.

He was best known for his role as Brad Taylor in the sitcom that ran from 1991 to 1999, and that also starred Patricia Richardson and Jonathan Taylor Thomas. Bryan also had roles in TV series Burn Notice, Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Veronica Mars before quitting acting in 2009.
