Qi Yuwu is one proud husband. The actor, who is married to actress Joanne Peh, sang his wife’s praises after she picked up an acting award recently.

Peh won the award for Best Leading Female Performance – Digital at the Asian Television Awards on Saturday for her role in the Mediacorp production, Last Madame, and in response, Qi wrote a sweet message to her on Instagram.

The 43-year-old actor wrote a lengthy post for his wife on Monday (Jan 18) saying that he was happy for her and that he could only imagine the pressure she was under for taking on such a daring role.

Peh plays the owner and mamasan of a high-end brothel in the period drama Last Madame set in 1930s Singapore, which is also Toggle’s first drama series given a mature rating.

Qi added: “I respect you for going out of your comfort zone to set a new precedent for Singapore television …  I really admire your attitude and your performance has finally received affirmation on a platform that is targeted at works that are broadcast all across Asia!”

He wrote all that in Chinese except for this last bit: “So bloody proud of you!”

The Last Madame also picked up two other awards: Best Digital Fiction Programme/Series and Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Lina Ng.

The 36-year-old Peh announced her win in an Instagram post, in which she thanked everyone involved in the production, including the executive producer, Mediacorp, her co-star Jeff Chou and “everyone who took such great care of us on set, I’m touched that our paths crossed”.
