From this Friday (Jul 23) until Aug 14, fans can take part in the challenge by uploading 15-second shorts of themselves dancing to BTS’ latest single. They can replicate dance moves from the Permission To Dance music video, including the international sign gestures for “Peace,” “Dance” and “Joy”, or choose to add their own dance moves.

Since its publication on Jul 9, the teaser video has garnered more than 22 million views. While some fans have lamented the fact that they cannot dance, they have shown their support nonetheless: “I cannot dance BTS I’m sorry … it would be terrible! But my heart is with you.” Meanwhile, other fans have taken to Twitter to express their enthusiasm, with some tweeting: "It's so cute!! This is gonna be a new dance craze!!!”

As part of the challenge, BTS will be putting the spotlight on some of their favourite Shorts in a compilation video. Participants can enter the running by including the hashtags #PermissiontoDance and #Shorts in their creations.

The Grammy-nominated K-pop band recently made the television debut performance of the song on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Their latest song, penned by Ed Sheeran, is part of their CD single Butter. The title track has topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for seven consecutive weeks, marking the group’s longest run in the No 1 spot.
