SINGAPORE: The Parenthood Provisional Housing Scheme (PPHS) has been extended by the Housing and Development Board (HDB) to include all married couples who have previously not enjoyed any housing subsidies .
The scheme will however still give priority to families with a citizen child under the age of 16.
The PPHS was introduced in January 2013 as an affordable housing option for those in need of temporary housing while waiting for the completion of their new HDB flats.
It previously covered married couples with young children as this group was considered as having more pressing housing needs.
HDB added that since there are available flats after meeting the demand from this target group, it can now allow more families to benefit.
HDB launched 900 flats Monday, which will be available for rental under the scheme.
PPHS flats are vacated Selective En-bloc Redevelopment Scheme (SERS) flats that are not immediately needed for redevelopment.
HDB said Monday that it is carrying out retrofitting works in the flats, and that the flats will be ready for occupation from mid-2013. Monthly rentals for the flats will range from S$800 to S$1,900, depending on the flat type and location.
Applications for flats under the scheme can be submitted from 8 April to 29 April 2013 via HDB InfoWeb or ekiosks at HDB Hub branches.
