Adjournment motion on fatal accidents caused by mechanical failures in heavy vehicles(Updated: )
MP Murali Pillai raised an adjournment motion in Parliament on Monday (Aug 6). He pointed to a gap in the law when it comes to fatal incidents caused by mechanical failures in heavy vehicles. Mr Murali said vehicle owners should be held responsible in such cases, and asked if a maintenance regime could be made mandatory. In response, Senior Minister of State for Transport Janil Puthucheary said the inspection regime is already "very frequent and stringent", adding that most heavy vehicle accidents are caused by driving behaviour. Parliament was then adjourned.
