Singapore has made strides in raising productivity, which will help reduce reliance on foreign labour, but it will require "much effort" to sustain the momentum. In Parliament on Monday (Aug 31), Minister of State for Manpower Gan Siow Huang called on Singaporeans to ensure they have relevant skills and are adaptable, and urged employers to be fair in hiring and retrenching, and developing local talent. She said a Singaporean core will be resilient in times of border controls when the supply of foreign manpower could be affected.
