Debate on President's Address: Melvin Yong on impact of global remote working on local workforce(Updated: )
Remote working possibilities mean the competition for jobs will truly become globalised, blurring the divide between the local and foreign workforce. MP Melvin Yong shared this observation in Parliament on Monday (Aug 31), as he asked if Singapore's work pass and employment pass system will still be relevant when employees need not be physically based in one location. He also asked if Singapore can continue to compete for investments and bring in the best companies. He raised concerns about whether Singaporeans can compete for good jobs at a time when they are facing many challenges.
