Budget 2021 debate: Chong Kee Hiong on growing the agri-food sector

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of food security, said MP Chong Kee Hiong, as he welcomed a new S$60 million Agri-Food Cluster Transformation Fund aimed at boosting local food production through technology. In Parliament on Friday (Feb 26), Mr Chong said it is important to ensure the agri-food sector is developed and kept viable. He said Singapore must nurture local expertise, prepare people for jobs in the sector and encourage a “buy local” mentality.
