It does not look likely that Singapore will meet the goal of keeping global warming below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels or be carbon negative by 2030. But MP Mariam Jaafar said in Parliament on Friday (Feb 26) that Singapore should not be discouraged, as it has the potential to lead the innovations and collaborations needed to push towards decarbonisation. She called for efforts to be stepped up in sectors where Singapore could be the world's most sustainable hub, and to push forward international engagements and leadership.
