Jamus Lim on motion to accelerate and deepen efforts against climate change(Updated: )
In Parliament on Monday (Feb 1), MP Jamus Lim voiced his support for a carbon tax, but said Singapore's is set too low - far short of most recommendations and even compared with actual rates currently imposed worldwide - and its coverage is limited. He said a higher carbon tax, applied more broadly, will ensure that all segments of society internalise the costs and consequences of climate change. Revenues from the carbon tax can also be used to offset other taxes, or be directed towards a "green fund" for investments that would further advance Singapore’s environmental objectives.
