Leon Perera on Singapore Food Agency Bill(Updated: )
NCMP Leon Perera spoke on the Singapore Food Agency Bill in Parliament on Tuesday (Feb 12). He said that in light of recent food safety lapses, the SFA should look into work conditions, training and pay for food handlers to see if there are root causes in the industry that need to be addressed. He also suggested making a food safety whistleblower hotline mandatory for large food service outlets. Mr Perera asked if the SFA would monitor global news reports to identify and stave off potential threats that might enter Singapore, giving the recent example of needles found in strawberries.
