Ong Teng Koon on Singapore Food Agency Bill(Updated: )
MP Ong Teng Koon spoke on the Singapore Food Agency Bill in Parliament on Tuesday (Feb 12). He said food security is not just about securing safe food sources, but having access to nutritious and healthy food. He asked how the SFA will ensure this and whether it has any plans to prevent the entry of unhealthy food into Singapore. Mr Ong also asked what role the SFA would play in an emergency situation, if harmful food products threaten public health and potentially even public order. He cited the example of the 2008 scandal in China where milk powder was found to be tainted with melamine.
