Ministerial statement: Ong Ye Kung on FTAs and CECA(Updated: )
Free trade agreements, including the one with India known as CECA, are fundamental to Singapore’s economic survival and significantly benefit local firms and workers. Yet they have been made “political scapegoats” by the Progress Singapore Party, said Health Minister Ong Ye Kung in Parliament on Tuesday (Jul 6). Speaking as a former trade negotiator, he emphasised that nothing in CECA implies that Singapore must unconditionally let in PMEs from India. They - those from 127 professions listed in CECA, as well as intra-corporate transferees - are subject to immigration and work pass criteria.
