Zainal Sapari on Fortitude Budget

(Updated: )

Essential service workers should be seen as “specialists” in their own fields, not as low-wage workers, said MP Zainal Sapari. He said the COVID-19 pandemic has prompted many to re-think, and some to change, their behaviour towards essential service workers. Speaking in Parliament on Thursday (Jun 4) on the Fortitude Budget, he wants to see more efforts to narrow the income gap and increase their wages. “In the new normal, we need a Progressive Wage Model where these essential services would be anchored by a skillful and productive workforce, balanced with both the young and old,” he said.
