Baey Yam Keng on child booster seats in taxis

07:12 Min
About 1,750 taxis were equipped with booster seats for young children in last year's pilot but utilisation was low, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Transport Baey Yam Keng said in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 4). He highlighted a constraint raised by cabbies - taxis have to meet a boot size requirement and the booster seat takes up substantial boot space, especially in the newer hybrid cars. He also said it is not feasible to make the booster seat mandatory for all taxis as families with more than one small child would not be able to travel together unless a taxi has multiple booster seats.
