Committee of Supply 2021 debate, Day 5: Chong Kee Hiong on refining Joint Singles Scheme, offering larger public rental flats

04:24 Min
The Joint Singles Scheme, which allows two tenants who are single to rent a flat together, can lead to difficulties when the flatmates are strangers and do not get along. MP Chong Kee Hiong suggested in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 4) that applicants be allowed to indicate criteria for an ideal housemate so that the Housing and Development Board can better match applicants. Turning to families, he asked if the Government would provide larger flats for rental. Due to COVID-19, the need for more space at home for each member of the family has become more pronounced, he said.
