Committee of Supply 2021 debate, Day 5: Tan See Leng on tackling Singapore’s ‘energy trilemma’

17:40 Min
Singapore faces an “energy trilemma” - how to obtain energy that is secure and reliable, affordable and environmentally sustainable - all of which involve trade-offs, said Second Minister for Trade and Industry Tan See Leng in Parliament on Thursday (Mar 4). He said the Government aims to manage this by introducing more renewable energy into Singapore’s energy mix, increasing the efficiency of its power systems and minimising impact on prices. Among other things, Singapore is scaling up solar panel deployment and developing regional grids to tap renewable energies from neighbouring countries.
