Ministerial statement: Gan Kim Yong on COVID-19 tests, treatment, buffer capacity(Updated: )
Singapore's healthcare system can handle the COVID-19 outbreak. But it needs to preserve its buffer capacity, said Health Minister Gan Kim Yong in Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 25). "Singapore's strategy is to slow down the infection rate and maintain it at as low a level as long as possible," he said. Singapore has conducted about 39,000 COVID-19 tests. This translates to about 6,800 tests per million people, compared with around 6,500 in South Korea and about 1,000 in Taiwan. "These tests are important in helping us to detect as many cases as possible and as early as possible,” he said.
